Thinking About Going Blonde? The Do’s and Don’ts of Hair Bleaching

Blonde hair never goes of-of style, and despite the damage, a bad bleach job can do to your hair, we all love being blonde, especially in the summer.

Blonde hair can be higher maintenance and staying blonde can be hard work, but for that beautiful sun-kissed look and feel it’s well worth it.  Whether you are considering going blonde for the first time, or simply looking to go blonder, here are some of the most important Do’s and Don’ts to consider when bleaching your hair.

DO look into your options

There is no “one blonde fits all” solution for every hair type and every fashionista. Your new blonde color doesn’t have to be all over, you could opt for highlights, balayage or even a full head application – depending on what best suits your hair and the look you want to achieve.

You should also remember that the natural color of your hair will affect the finished color and that you may not be able to rock a Kim Kardashian blonde wig effect in one sitting.

DO commit to your choice

Going blonde is a bold step, but once you have decided to do it, get stuck in.  Going blonde is harsh on your hair, that’s a fact.  But continually building up with highlights or different shades can prolong the damage and over process some parts of your hair.

DO be prepared to make sure you invest in specialist products for bleached hair

Bleach is really harsh on your hair, and you should make sure that your hair is well moisturized and cared for at all times.  Get into the habit of applying a hair mask every week or so and remember that your hair will be prone to splitting, weakening and looking and feel coarse in the weeks following the bleach application.  Keep up the maintenance by always using high-quality products that are specially designed for color-treated hair that will be gentle on the hair and also help maintain its natural bounce.

DON’T wash your hair every day.

Bleached hair more than any other, needs the natural oils to repair itself.  Even if you find that your hair feels greasy after a day or so, try and hold out for a few days between each wash in the early stages.  Eventually, your hair will start to regulate itself and you will be able to go longer between each hair wash, which will, in turn, keep your hair in better condition.

DON’T do it yourself.

The very best way to get natural looking blonde highlights, balayage or all over color is by having a professional do it for you. You should have an experienced color technician give you the gorgeous blonde tones and highlights you are dreaming of.
