Why Hyaluronic Acid is Amazing

Much has been written about hyaluronic acid and its benefits. It’s a common ingredient in a variety of skincare products, but few know how or why it works. Hyaluronic acid aids in reducing the visibility of the fine lines and wrinkles associated with aging. It accomplishes that by hydrating and plumping the skin so lines and wrinkles aren’t as visible.

When the skin is hydrated, it also enhances the body’s ability to renew skin cells. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that attracts and retains moisture. The good news is that it’s never too late to begin giving the body a daily dose of hyaluronic acid for smoother, younger-looking skin.

Lines and Wrinkles

It’s especially effective around the eye area – one of the first locations where lines are likely to appear. It makes the skin around the eyes smoother and more supple. Skin that’s hydrated is less likely to form new lines and wrinkles. It fortifies the body’s natural barriers to the epidermis to aid in fighting toxins and environmental agents such as pollution and UV rays that damage skin.

Pigmentation

Dark spots are the result of extra pigmentation in areas of the skin where damage has occurred, primarily due to sun damage. Hyaluronic acid can aid in reducing the visibility of dark spots, but should be combined with a vitamin C serum or booster for optimum results.

Skin Cell Regeneration

Hyaluronic acid won’t actually speed up the body’s ability to renew skin cells, but it does stimulate the regeneration of cells. It provides a protective, hydrating barrier for more vibrant-looking skin. The body’s cells renew themselves about every 28 days and by the age of 25, collagen production that provides elasticity has already begun to slow down. As people age, the cell renewal process can take up to 90 days.

Tighter Skin

As skin ages, its elastin begins to break down and the skin begins to sag. When skin is hydrated, it sags less. Hyaluronic acid won’t replace elastin, but it will provide moisture that will plump and smooth facial contours, and provide clarity, for a more youthful visage.
